Jelgava Municipality has held its annual camp for children from Ukraine for the fifth time this year. The camp took place from June 6 to 15 and welcomed 26 children and youth from the twin city of Rava-Ruska in the Lviv region, accompanied by six adults.

The camp “Get to Know Latvia!” hosted children who came to Rava-Ruska fleeing war-affected regions of Ukraine, children whose parents serve in the Ukrainian armed forces, and particularly talented young people.

The ten-day program included educational excursions, sports and creative activities, as well as opportunities to explore Latvian nature and cultural heritage. Participants visited the Children and Youth Technology Festival, a sand sculpture exhibition in Jelgava, the Glūda Parish festival, and engaged in sports at the Valgunde Sports Hall. Excursions were also organized to Riga, Jūrmala, Liepāja, and Bauska.

The twinning ties between Jelgava Municipality and the city of Rava-Ruska have been in place since 2022.
