Jelgava Municipality Considers Offering Tours in Closed Prison

Jelgava's local government is considering offering tours in the closed prison facility that it recently took over from the Ministry of Justice. A month ago, the municipality received the former prison at 3 and 7 Palīdzības Street for free use and management.

Currently, a development concept for the area is being prepared, and in the coming months, the municipality plans to start organizing excursions and renting out spaces for events. The local government has already received proposals to use the former prison for feature film production.

On Thursday, the city council approved a rental fee for filming and audiovisual projects: 0.15 euros per square meter per day. The Jelgava prison was closed at the end of June, and the buildings were transferred to the municipality for its functions.
