The 22nd International Geography Olympiad has concluded in Turkey, with Latvia's student team achieving strong results, bringing home one gold, two silver and one bronze medal, the Jelgava municipality reports.

Latvia's team included two young people from Jelgava — Kārlis Zikmanis and Raivo Zimelis, students at Jelgava's Spīdola State Gymnasium. Both demonstrated strong knowledge in the international competition and each won a silver medal.

Success continues from earlier this year

This has already been a successful year for both students. In June, the Baltic Geography Olympiad was held in Jelgava, where Raivo Zimelis won gold and Kārlis Zikmanis won bronze.

Jelgava to host the olympiad next year

The Jelgava municipality notes that next August the city will host the International Geography Olympiad for the first time, expecting to welcome several hundred young geographers from nearly 50 countries around the world.
