The Central Election Commission (CVK) has decided to remove candidate Roze from the Riga electoral district list of the New Conservative Party (JKP). After reviewing information from the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs registry, the CVK found that Roze does not meet the minimum age requirement for candidacy — he will not have reached 21 years of age by election day. According to the law, only Latvian citizens who are at least 21 on election day and are not subject to other restrictions can be elected to the Saeima. Roze was listed as the 29th and final candidate on JKP's Riga list.
This is not the first time the CVK has removed a candidate from an electoral list. Earlier, the commission struck off Jurijs Jesipenko from the Harmony Centre alliance list in Riga after determining that he is not a Latvian citizen. A total of 14 candidate lists have been submitted for the 15th Saeima elections, which will take place in early October.
