British athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson has spoken about her experience at the European Championships, where she competed in the heptathlon. She explained that an injury in the lead-up to the event significantly restricted her ability to train properly beforehand.

The heptathlon is one of athletics' most demanding disciplines, requiring competitors to complete seven different events over two days, combining running, jumping and throwing. Because of this range of skills, even a short disruption to training can have a noticeable impact on overall performance, since each event demands distinct physical conditioning and technique.

Despite the difficult circumstances surrounding her preparation, Johnson-Thompson emphasised that she is grateful simply to have had the opportunity to compete at all. Her comments reflect an awareness that returning to competition after injury is itself a meaningful achievement, regardless of the eventual outcome.

Johnson-Thompson is one of Britain's best-known heptathletes in recent years, and her career has repeatedly been affected by various injuries. Judging by her remarks, this history appears to have shaped her perspective on competing, leading her to view each appearance as an opportunity rather than something to be taken for granted.

Her comments came after the conclusion of the European Championships, as she looked back on both the competition itself and the preparation period, during which her training had not gone the way she would have wanted ahead of such an important event.
