Jonass experiences ups and downs in MXGP first race in Britain
Pauls Jonass finished 17th after a fluctuating performance in the MXGP opening race. Jeffrey Herlings took the win.
In the first MXGP race in Great Britain, Latvian rider Pauls Jonass had a rollercoaster performance. He completed the opening lap in 25th place, climbed to 13th by lap 12, but dropped to 17th in the penultimate lap, where he eventually finished. The victory went to Dutchman Jeffrey Herlings, who led from start to finish. Slovenian Tim Gajser finished second, 3.121 seconds behind, followed by Frenchman Romain Febvre, 7.806 seconds off the pace. Jonass trailed the winner by one minute and 19.247 seconds.
In the MX2 class, Spaniard Guillem Farres won the first race, beating current champion German Simon Längenfelder by 1.268 seconds and Belgian Liam Everts by 16.938 seconds. Among the Latvians, Jēkabs Reišulis performed best, holding fourth place for the first three laps before dropping to fifth, finishing 33.323 seconds behind Farres. Kārlis Reišulis ended the first lap in 13th and improved to eighth by the finish, losing one minute and 11.737 seconds to the winner.
The second races in both classes are scheduled for Sunday. The world championship features 19 rounds this season.
