Jonass hopes for a podium finish to close season in Australia
MXGP rider Jonass finished fifth in both motos at the penultimate round, while Fevre took second twice in a tight battle with champion Herlings. Herlings has already clinched the 2026 title, with Fevre securing the runner-up spot.
In the MXGP world championship class, Jonass held onto fifth place in the first moto after a closely fought battle, and repeated that result in the second moto, cementing his place among the top ten riders ahead of the season finale in Australia.
After the races, Jonass said he struggled to find his rhythm in the first moto, even though he made no mistakes. He had a good start in the second moto but ran slightly wide in the first corner, then pulled off several good passing moves during the opening lap. He noted that conditions were hot and humid, though not as tough as last year. He said fifth place looks decent on paper, but he'd like to end the season with a podium finish at the upcoming Australian round.
Fevre's battle with Herlings
French rider Fevre started the first moto from third position, quickly found his pace, and finished second after a decisive passing move. In the second moto, he spent the final laps trying to overtake race leader Jeffrey Herlings, but encountered a dangerous moment on a jump where his bike was knocked sideways. Despite this, he held on to secure second place in the round.
After the finish, Fevre said he feels good when it's genuinely hot, since it's still not as bad as last year, pointing to his strong physical conditioning during the fierce battle with Herlings. He mentioned that the two riders were very close in the final lap, but after hitting a bump and sliding the bike sideways, he stayed calm and trusted things would work out.
With these results, Honda rider Jeffrey Herlings has already secured the 2026 MXGP championship title, while Romain Fevre has locked in the runner-up position in the points standings, which no one else can now overtake.
