Romain Vialle won the MXGP qualifying race on the Darwin track in Australia, grabbing a strong holeshot at the start and holding the lead throughout, fending off pressure from Romain Febvre. Febvre finished second, 3.1 seconds behind.

Latvian rider Pauls Jonass started strongly, initially running in fourth position, but was passed on the third lap by Jeffrey Herlings, who was working through the field after a poor start. Jonass held fifth place for the rest of the race and finished there.

Herlings fights back

Herlings slid in the mud in the first corner and found himself at the back of the field, but showed strong pace, passing several rivals including Andrea Adamo to climb to third place. This ended his streak of finishing first in 40 consecutive sessions, including practice runs, heading into this race.

Championship situation

Ahead of Sunday's final motos, Herlings has already clinched the season title, while Febvre — competing in what will be his last race for the Kawasaki team — has secured second place in the overall standings. Jonass still hopes to finish higher than tenth overall, especially since several of his direct rivals are currently out due to injuries.
