Fire Alarm Triggers Evacuation at New Riga Theatre, Three Shows Cancelled
A fire alarm went off at the New Riga Theatre on Friday evening, causing water to flood the ground floor from the fire suppression system. Two performances were cancelled and a third was interrupted, with the audience evacuated.
On Friday evening, a fire alarm was triggered at the New Riga Theatre (JRT), causing water to flow from the fire suppression system and flood the building's ground floor. The incident was described to the LETA news agency by JRT's advertising and public relations specialist, Inga Liepiņa.
According to Liepiņa, there was no smoke in the theatre, but by the evening it was not yet clear what had caused the alarm to go off. The extent of the flooded areas and the resulting damage were also still unknown at that time.
Performances disrupted
As a result of the alarm and the flooding, three scheduled performances did not take place at the theatre that evening. Two of them were cancelled outright, while a third was interrupted mid-show, with the audience evacuated from the premises for safety reasons.
The theatre representative said further details about the cause of the incident and the extent of the damage would be clarified later.
