Man dies after collapsing outside Mego store in Riga's Jugla
An elderly man collapsed and died outside the Mego store in Riga's Jugla neighbourhood on Tuesday despite resuscitation efforts by a passer-by and medics. Police are investigating, and an expert examination will determine the cause of death.

Visitors at the Mego store in Jugla got a shocking sight on Tuesday as the body of a man covered with a blue plastic sheet lay on the pavement near the entrance. Officers from the State Police were at the scene waiting for the mortuary transport.
According to the TV3 programme “Degpunktā”, the victim was an elderly man. A store employee said the man had bought alcohol through the front doors, walked out and then suddenly collapsed. The employee did not see what happened afterwards because he was busy with work, but noted that the man was a regular customer.
A passer-by immediately called an ambulance and, following the dispatcher's instructions, started resuscitation. Initially, the efforts appeared to be successful. Two emergency medical teams and a specialist doctor team then arrived at the scene and continued resuscitation.
Laura Bērziņa, a representative of the Emergency Medical Service, said medics carried out intensive resuscitation for about 40 minutes and did everything possible to save the man, but without success.
The circumstances and exact cause of death are still being established. According to preliminary information, an examination cannot rule out that the death was related to long-term excessive alcohol consumption.
