A car driven by young people collided with a truck in Jurkalne while in the oncoming lane, leaving only burning debris. Police have launched a criminal process.

The tragic accident in Jurkalne involved a passenger car driven by young people. The vehicle, an Alfa Romeo, was torn apart in the collision, leaving only debris that kept burning after the crash. Oskars Irbītis, road safety expert at CSDD, told TV Kurzeme that the car had shattered into fragments, indicating an extremely high speed. He said the youths had been driving very fast, which led to such tragic consequences.
An inspection of the scene revealed that the car was in the opposite lane at the moment of impact. The truck involved was moving with an empty cistern. According to the expert, this circumstance prevented an explosion, a major fire and possibly additional casualties. He also reminded that anyone seeing such an accident should not approach the scene, as was visible in a witness video from the morning.
Emergency services worked at the location for several hours. Traffic on that road section was fully blocked until the afternoon. The State Police have launched a criminal investigation, and the exact causes of the accident are still being clarified.
