Juventus battle to second straight win as Fiorentina's woes continue
Juventus edged past Parma 2-0 in the closing stages to claim their second consecutive Serie A win, while Fiorentina suffered a heavy 0-3 defeat to Frosinone and remain scoreless this season.
Juventus secured a 2-0 home victory over Parma, earning their second straight win in the second round of Italy's Serie A.
The first half was cautious, with neither side managing a shot on target in the opening thirty minutes. Juventus midfielder Francisco Conceicao came closest to scoring, striking the post from distance in the 33rd minute.
After the break, Parma continued to play defensively, and Juventus struggled to convert their chances, with the visitors blocking dangerous attempts or the hosts firing wide.
The deadlock broke in the 62nd minute when Nicolo Gonzalez struck the crossbar and post with a long-range effort. After two rebounds, the ball bounced out of the penalty area, where Gonzalez was first to react, firing again from a tight angle. Following further deflections, the ball ended up in the net — Gonzalez's first goal since returning to Juventus following his loan spell at Atletico Madrid.
After conceding, Parma opened up and created two dangerous chances, but both were saved by Juventus goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
In the closing minutes, any hopes of a Parma comeback were extinguished. In the 88th minute, confusion in the Parma defense following a pass attempt by Eduardo Corvi was exploited by Teun Koopmeiners, who made it 2-0.
Juventus will play their next match on September 6 against AC Milan.
Fiorentina continues to struggle
Earlier on Saturday, David de Gea's Fiorentina suffered a 0-3 away defeat to newly promoted Frosinone. After two matches this season, the side that reached last season's Conference League quarterfinals has yet to score a goal and has conceded seven.
