How to Clear the Cache on Your Roku TV: Three Simple Methods
If your Roku device has become sluggish over time, clearing its cache might help. The article describes three methods, including a secret remote control button sequence.

Like many smart devices, Roku TVs and streaming devices can slow down over time due to aging hardware, outdated software, or a slow internet connection. To address performance issues, users should first check for updates by navigating to Settings > System > Software update and selecting Check Now. Installing the latest Roku update ensures that known bugs and performance issues are fixed, and new features become available.
If problems persist, clearing the device's cache may help. Caching is designed to improve performance by temporarily storing frequently accessed data, such as thumbnails and app data, so they don't need to be re-downloaded. However, cached data can accumulate or become corrupted. Roku products do not offer a dedicated clear cache option, but there are three ways to achieve this.
Method one: use a hidden remote shortcut. Press the Home button five times, Up once, Rewind twice, and Fast Forward twice. This triggers a system restart that clears the cache.
Method two: perform a full system restart via the menu. Go to Settings > System > Power and select System restart. This is a full restart, unlike simply turning the device off and on, as most modern devices enter a low-power state rather than fully shutting down.
Method three: physically unplug the Roku device from power, wait about 30 seconds, and plug it back in. After clearing the cache, apps may load faster and the system may feel more responsive. This maintenance should be done roughly once a month or when noticeable performance issues appear. Ideally, Roku would allow clearing cache for individual apps, like Android TV does, so users wouldn't have to wipe the entire system cache if only one app is misbehaving.
