How to join a FaceTime call without an iPhone — from Android or Windows
Apple's FaceTime lets people without an Apple device join calls through a web browser alone. The feature has existed since 2021, though many remain unaware of it.
Many assume FaceTime is exclusive to Apple devices, much like iMessage once was. However, since 2021, when iOS 15 and macOS Monterey launched, it has been possible to join FaceTime calls from an Android phone or Windows PC using nothing more than an updated web browser.
It's worth noting that a call cannot be started from an Android or Windows device — only an iPhone, iPad, or Mac user can initiate one and send an invitation link. To join, a recipient simply opens the link, enters their name, and grants the browser permission to use the camera and microphone. Apple recommends using the latest version of Chrome or Edge along with a strong internet connection, and no Apple Account is required.
Limitations
Those joining via browser get access to standard call features, including full-screen video, muting the microphone, and switching the camera view. However, screen sharing is not available, and SharePlay, which lets participants enjoy music or movies together during a call, does not work on non-Apple devices.
Sending an invitation
For iPhone users, sending an invite is straightforward: open FaceTime, start a new call, tap the green link button in the lower-left corner, and choose how to send it, such as through Messages or WhatsApp.
While the experience isn't flawless and cross-platform alternatives like WhatsApp, Telegram, Zoom, or Google Meet exist, this option can be useful when FaceTime happens to be the only app a group of friends relies on.
