How to Decorate Your Midsummer Table: Tips from an Interior Expert
Interior designer Darius Rimkus offers simple and natural table decoration ideas for Midsummer celebrations, using meadow flowers, greenery, and natural materials.

As Midsummer approaches, many are thinking about table decorations. According to Darius Rimkus, Head of the Interior Design Department at IKEA, the first step is to decide how the evening will be spent. If the table is the central gathering spot for the whole evening, low and compact decorations are recommended. If the table is only used for the meal and the rest of the night is spent outdoors, richer decorations and taller compositions can be chosen.
The key is simplicity and naturalness. Soft colors, natural materials, and nature-inspired elements suit Midsummer. Meadow flowers, ferns, oak branches, and herbs such as dill, mint, or chives create a festive atmosphere. Wreaths can be used as table decorations, and making them is a fun family activity. Wood, linen, glass, and ceramics are ideal materials. Rimkus emphasizes that perfection is not necessary – nature has no rules.
A white tablecloth, neutral-toned dishes, and a table runner help highlight natural elements. The center of the table should feature meadow flower or greenery arrangements. It's important to use no more than two or three colors and leave room for plates. Handwritten summer solstice sayings or folk songs on each plate add a personal touch, along with a small fern branch as decoration.
Candles, both real and LED, create a special atmosphere. LED candles are safer when children are present. Candles with lemon scent help repel mosquitoes. Additional lighting like solar-powered string lights or lanterns can be used, but they should not overpower the candlelight. Rimkus encourages people to consider their own family traditions and associations to create a unique and personal table setting.
