How to Connect Ring Doorbell to Your Smart TV
This article explains how to connect a Ring doorbell camera to a smart TV, allowing you to see visitors directly on the big screen without using your phone.
Compatibility with Different Devices
You can connect your Ring doorbell to a smart TV so that a live video feed appears automatically when someone rings. The most seamless integration is with Amazon Fire TV devices, since Ring is owned by Amazon. The Fire TV operating system links directly to your Ring account through the Alexa app. Compatible brands include Amazon, Panasonic, TCL, Hisense, Toshiba, and Insignia. If your TV doesn't run Fire OS, you can use a Fire TV Stick or Fire TV Cube plugged into an HDMI port to add this functionality.
Samsung Smart TVs from 2022 and newer have a built-in SmartThings hub that allows connecting Ring through the SmartThings ecosystem. For other TVs, screen mirroring from a smartphone is a workaround, but it's less convenient since you still need to open the Ring app.
Setup Steps for Fire TV and Samsung TVs
To connect Ring to Fire TV, open the Alexa app on your phone, go to More > Skills & Games, search for and enable the Ring skill. Sign in to your Ring account to link both platforms. After device discovery, enable Doorbell Press Announcements and Motion Announcements in the Alexa app. When someone rings, a picture-in-picture feed will appear on your TV.
For Samsung TVs, use the SmartThings app on your phone. Go to Devices > Add Device, tap Partner Devices, and search for Ring. Log in to your Ring account to authorize. Then open the SmartThings app on your TV and enable Ring notifications. In the Ring app, turn on Ring Alerts and Motion Alerts. Now, when motion is detected or the doorbell is pressed, a notification appears on your Samsung TV.
Alternative: Screen Mirroring
If your TV doesn't support any of the above methods, screen mirroring is your best bet. Open the live feed in the Ring app on your smartphone and mirror the screen to your TV. This is less efficient because you still need to use your phone, but it lets you view the feed on a larger screen.
