What's the difference between Qi2 and Qi2.2 wireless charging on Android
The new Qi2 25W wireless charging standard, also known as Qi2.2, delivers nearly double the power of standard Qi2, cutting charging times significantly. Android phones, including the newly announced Pixel 11 lineup, are now starting to adopt the faster standard.

Wireless charging technology continues to evolve, and most modern devices currently rely on the Qi2 standard. Its latest evolution, known as Qi2 25W or simply Qi2.2, was announced last summer as a faster option supported by both iPhones and select Android smartphones.
While Google was initially slow to adopt Qi2, newer Android devices are now beginning to support the faster Qi2 25W standard, including the recently announced Pixel 11 lineup.
Power and speed make the difference
The core distinction between the two standards lies in power delivery. Standard Qi2 caps out at 15 watts, while Qi2 25W can deliver up to 25 watts, resulting in noticeably faster charging.
With regular Qi2, charging a device from zero to 50 percent battery can take between 50 and 80 minutes. With Qi2 25W, that same charge level is reached in roughly half an hour. Since wireless charging has traditionally lagged behind wired charging in efficiency, this represents a meaningful improvement.
Better thermal protection
A second advantage of Qi2.2 is improved thermal protection. Anyone who has noticed their phone heating up while sitting on a wireless charging pad may see improvement with the new standard. A lower peak temperature during charging can also help extend battery lifespan over time, even if the difference isn't noticeable to the user directly.
Overall, Qi2 25W marks a solid upgrade over its predecessor, and it's worth taking advantage of for anyone whose hardware supports the new power standard.
