In Latvia, people are accustomed to fast internet and a wide range of digital services, leading many to believe the country is well-developed in this area. However, recent incidents where criminals gained access to the servers of Latvijas Valsts meži and the pharmaceutical manufacturer Olpha have prompted questions: have we focused on digitalization but neglected cybersecurity?

Latvian Radio explored why these processes do not always go hand in hand and what the ideal cybersecurity landscape should look like. The investigation highlights that digitalization without adequate security can create vulnerabilities that threaten both corporate data and public trust.

Experts emphasize the need for a more robust cybersecurity infrastructure in Latvia, capable of preventing attacks and responding swiftly to incidents. This involves not only technological solutions but also human resource training and international cooperation. Only then can the digital environment be both convenient and secure.
