Kyle Lowry to become second player honored with retired number by Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors are set to retire former point guard Kyle Lowry's jersey, making him only the second player in franchise history to have his number hung from the arena rafters. The first to receive this honor was Vince Carter, whose number 15 was retired in November 2024.

The ceremony is planned to follow the regular-season game against the Philadelphia 76ers on January 10. Philadelphia is Lowry's hometown, while the 76ers were the final team of his playing career.

A symbolic contract

On July 7 this year, the 40-year-old signed a symbolic one-day contract with the Toronto Raptors, choosing the date to match his jersey number in order to officially announce his retirement while wearing a Raptors uniform.

Career with Toronto and beyond

Lowry was part of the Raptors roster that won the NBA championship in 2019. Over nine seasons in Toronto, he was named to the All-Star Game six times. During his career, he also played for the Memphis Grizzlies, Houston Rockets and Miami Heat.

Across his regular-season career, Lowry appeared in 1,187 games, averaging 13.8 points, 6.0 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game.
