California Governor Gavin Newsom has put his Fair Oaks mansion near Sacramento up for sale ahead of his term ending in January, with an asking price of $7.5 million.
California governor Gavin Newsom has listed his Sacramento-area estate for sale ahead of his term ending in January. The Spanish-style home, located in Fair Oaks, a suburb of Sacramento, features 12 bathrooms and seven bedrooms and hit the market on Monday with an asking price of $7.5 million.
The property sits on an 8.2-acre (3.3-hectare) parcel and includes a full-size tennis court, a 5,000-bottle wine cellar, a pool, a cold plunge and a hot tub, according to a Zillow listing prepared by realtors Matthew Hindy and Nick Sadek.
Newsom, elected governor in 2018, has openly discussed the possibility of seeking the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028.
Family history at the property
The governor and his family moved into the Fair Oaks estate in 2019, after a brief stay at the historic governor's mansion in Sacramento. At the time, a spokesperson described the new home as more suitable for children, according to the Sacramento Bee.
Since then, the Newsoms have divided their time between Sacramento and the affluent Marin county north of San Francisco, where they also own property. In 2024, Newsom enrolled his children in schools in Marin county.
The Fair Oaks mansion was the site of a protest in 2020, when demonstrators chained themselves to the property's fence to express concern over rising deaths in California prisons during the Covid-19 pandemic. The estate also drew attention in 2024, when Newsom hosted a political fundraiser there for Minnesota governor Tim Walz, who was then running as the Democratic vice-presidential candidate.
