Kallas: Exchange of strikes between US and Iran further complicates already difficult negotiations
EU High Representative Kaja Kallas says the exchange of strikes between the US and Iran complicates already difficult negotiations to end the war. She condemned Iran's attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait.

European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas has commented on the exchange of strikes between the United States and Iran, stating that it further complicates the already difficult negotiations aimed at ending the war. In a post on social media platform X, she described the attacks as problematic.
Kallas called Iran's attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait unacceptable. She noted that under a previously signed memorandum, Tehran committed to reopening the Strait of Hormuz for navigation. However, recent attacks on vessels near the strait violate that obligation and threaten the restoration of energy supplies. She stressed that freedom of navigation must not be restricted.
The EU foreign policy chief added that next Monday, foreign ministers from European Union member states will meet with their counterparts from Gulf states to discuss how to jointly facilitate the implementation of the agreement and maintain freedom of navigation in both the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea.
Earlier, the US military launched new "massive strikes" against Iran, aiming to inflict serious damage in retaliation for Iran's shelling of three tankers near the Strait of Hormuz. Iran responded by striking US military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain.
