Kallas welcomes Israel's decision to extend mandates of two EU missions

Kaja Kallas, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has welcomed the Israeli authorities' decision to extend the mandates of two EU missions operating under the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). The missions are based in Rafah and the West Bank, and their mandates have been extended until the end of June 2027.
In a post on social platform X, Kallas described the decision as an important step after several months of diplomatic talks. She thanked the European External Action Service (EEAS) and the participating EU member states for their focused efforts, which made the mandate extension possible.
According to Kallas, the missions have a clear goal: to help make border crossing points safer and more efficient, support the Palestinian police, and contribute to stability in the region. She added that the CSDP missions continue to work with all parties in order to fulfil their mandates. They respond to the specific needs of the Palestinian side and remain an important part of the EU's presence on the ground.
Kallas also stated that the EU will continue to support the peace plan for Gaza approved by UN Security Council Resolution 2803.
