Luge athlete and police officer Kristers Aparjods involved in altercation with teenager in Allaži

Following a conflict at last weekend's "Allasille" festival in the Allaži parish, one of the parties involved has filed a police report concerning Latvian luge athlete and State Police officer Kristers Aparjods, according to "Latvijas Avīze."

The dispute broke out on the evening of August 22 at the Allaži community house, where a night dance followed the festival's concerts. Those involved included a 14-year-old teenager along with his mother and stepfather on one side, and Aparjods, a security guard, and another man on the other. The exact cause of the conflict remains unknown.

Conflicting accounts

The family, who consider themselves the injured party, say the conflict began with the teenager, who was allegedly insulted and briefly locked in a room, before the incident escalated into a physical altercation in which the stepfather was injured. According to the family's version, it was Aparjods who first engaged with the teenager. Aparjods's own account has not yet been made public, as "Latvijas Avīze" was unable to reach him before publication.

Administrative proceedings launched

The case has been taken up by officials from the State Police Riga Region Directorate's Northern Pierīga unit. Two administrative violation proceedings have been opened — one concerning possible minor bodily injury to a man, and another concerning possible violence against a child. Because Aparjods himself is a State Police employee, the injured man has also filed a complaint with the Internal Security Bureau, asking it to assess the incident.

The Sigulda municipal government confirmed that one festival attendee sustained injuries during the conflict, and that a wall of the Allaži community house was damaged — according to information available to the municipality, by the teenager. The municipality has also reported the incident to the State Police, which must now assess the conduct of all parties involved and the sequence of events.
