On the evening of September 12, Xiaomi Arena in Riga will host a boxing match between two experienced fighters: 47-year-old Kaspars Kambala, weighing 124.5 kilograms, and 36-year-old Kristaps Zutis, weighing 102.5 kilograms.
An unusual approach
At a press conference held ahead of the bout, both fighters shared their plans and mindset for the upcoming clash, which turned out to be far from the tense rhetoric typically associated with boxing matchups. Zutis revealed that on the day of the fight he intends to go picking chanterelle mushrooms, and that he will head into the ring against Kambala with the same carefree attitude one might have going to a village dance or a wine festival — fully aware that someone will be waiting there to fight.
Kambala's perspective
Kambala expressed a similarly celebratory outlook on the upcoming event. He noted that he has been waiting for this moment for many years and invited spectators to come and celebrate together with him.
The fight is being organized with the involvement of "Bazara 0 Fight Club," and video footage of the press conference statements has already been circulated. The clip has also been shared on social media, generating interest ahead of the match.
The age and weight gap between the two boxers — Kambala being both older and heavier than Zutis — adds an extra layer of intrigue to the contest.
