Canada will not admit Russian players to the upcoming World Junior Championship
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has said Russia's team will not take part in the U-20 ice hockey World Championship, to be held in Canada at the turn of the year. The statement follows a Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling on restoring Russian teams' rights.

Russia's national team will not play in the under-20 World Junior Ice Hockey Championship, which is due to be held in Canada at the turn of this year and next, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has said. The tournament is the world championship for young hockey players, organised by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).
What came before
Last Friday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which rules on disputes in international sport, ordered the IIHF to immediately reinstate the Russian national teams' right to take part in international tournaments. Carney's statement therefore sets out Canada's position on that ruling as it applies to the tournament being hosted in his country.
The source gives no further details on how Canada intends to ensure the Russian team does not take part, how the IIHF has responded to the statement, or whether the ruling will be challenged.
