Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney outlined new measures to help Ukraine get through the winter during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who arrived in Calgary for a visit.

Contribution to energy fund

Carney announced that Canada will contribute to Ukraine's Energy Security Fund. The funds will go toward restoring energy infrastructure, expanding energy storage capacity, and ensuring electricity supply to hospitals.

In addition, Canada will provide loan guarantees for gas purchases worth more than 430 million dollars. Carney also said the two countries will deepen cooperation on energy and critical minerals to strengthen the reliability of supply chains.

Air defence support

The Canadian prime minister said the country will allocate 350 million Canadian dollars (253 million US dollars) to purchase air defence interceptor missiles for Ukraine.

Centennial partnership declaration

During the visit, Zelensky and Carney signed a Declaration on a 100-Year Partnership, which envisions the two countries elevating their bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
