Kandava crush Salaspils 158:61, Gulbene Buki set up clash with Ogre
In the second-leg matches of Latvia's Užava Cup first round, none of the trailing teams managed to overturn their series deficit, and five second-round pairings have now been confirmed.
Five second-leg games were played on Friday evening in the Latvian basketball Užava Cup, and none of the teams that lost their opening match managed to reverse the outcome.
The most lopsided result came from Kandava's "Anzāģe/Turība," who thrashed the "Salaspils" sports school youth team 158:61 at home, sinking 26 three-pointers along the way. Markuss Mamajs led all scorers with 38 points, including ten made threes, followed by Mārtiņš Zviedris (22) and Kristers Maura (21). Across both legs, Kandava outscored their opponents by 159 points and will face Liepāja in the second round.
"Jelgava" were superior to "Tukums" in both matches, winning the return leg 92:67 for a combined 66-point aggregate margin. Armands Ginters top-scored for Jelgava with 17 points. Jelgava will next face defending champions "Valmiera Glass/VIA."
"Ķekava" continued to dominate "Ādaži/Carnikava," winning 101:79 behind Roberts Porietis's 20 points, and will meet "Latvijas Universitāte" in the next round.
In the only series where the outcome remained uncertain before the second leg, "Dienvidkurzeme novads" defeated "WWD Cēsis" 100:77 at home, led by Nils Biģelis's 28 points. They will face "Rīgas Zeļļi" in round two.
"Gulbenes Buki" won away at Jēkabpils 93:74, taking the aggregate by 54 points, and will next play "Ogre." Ingars Aizpurs and Matīss Lācis led the scoring for Gulbene.
The final two first-round matches are scheduled for Saturday in Grobiņa and Saldus.
