Caprioti: Victory over Greece is Latvia's women's volleyball biggest win in 30 years

On Saturday, June 21, the Latvian women's volleyball team secured a 3-2 victory over Greece (26:28, 27:25, 13:25, 25:22, 15:8) in the CEV European League match held in Tallinn. After the game, head coach Daniele Caprioti stated that this is the biggest win for the team in the last 30 years, while emphasizing that the overall process throughout the tournament is more important. He urged the team to continue the progress to achieve even greater results in the future.

Caprioti noted that Greece participated in the World Championship last year and won several matches, making this victory particularly valuable. Latvian libero Kristīne Kramēna expressed that the opponents likely did not expect such a confident performance from Latvia and that the team managed to surprise them. She added that after the previous five-set loss to Estonia, it was not difficult to regroup, as that match was also well played. Kramēna believes this is the biggest win of her career, as it shows that Latvia can compete and defeat strong teams.

With seven points from six matches, Latvia occupies 16th place in the 24-team tournament, while Greece has 12 points from five games and sits eighth – this was Greece's first loss in the competition. In the world rankings, Greece is 28th and Latvia is 65th. The Latvian national team will also compete in the European Championship finals this year.

Earlier in the tournament, Latvia lost to Romania and Israel, beat Iceland, and suffered defeats to Slovenia and Estonia. Greece had previously won against Croatia, Lithuania, Kosovo, and Portugal.
