Queen Camilla's granddaughter, once a tiny bridesmaid at William and Kate's wedding, is now 18 and barely recognisable

Eliza Lopes, granddaughter of Queen Camilla, first became widely known in 2011 as one of the youngest bridesmaids at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. Now 18, she looks considerably grown up in newly published photographs.

This week Eliza joined her grandmother, Queen Camilla, on a shopping trip to the Scottish village of Ballater, located near Balmoral Castle, where King Charles III and Camilla traditionally spend their summer holidays. The outing also included Camilla's sister, Annabel Elliot, and Camilla's daughter — and Eliza's mother — Laura Lopes, 48.

The photographs show that Eliza has grown taller than her grandmother, even though Camilla, at around 175 centimetres, is considered one of the tallest women in the British royal family. For the shopping trip, the 18-year-old chose a casual, youthful outfit of low-waisted jeans, a black shirt and a bright red bomber jacket with gold detailing, paired with green trainers and sunglasses. Camilla, meanwhile, wore a more informal look consisting of blue jeans, a navy jumper and a green jacket. Judging by the number of shopping bags, the outing was a success, taking in both cashmere clothing shops and bookstores.

Memories of the 2011 wedding

Eliza first drew public attention on 29 April 2011, when, at just three years old, she took part in William and Kate's wedding at Westminster Abbey, travelling to the ceremony from The Goring hotel alongside Kate's sister, Pippa Middleton. When the scale of the celebrations became overwhelming for the toddler, Prince Harry stepped in to entertain her with a pink toy, which she refused to let go of even in the official wedding photograph at Buckingham Palace. Camilla later recalled, with humour, how anxious she had been beforehand about how her granddaughter would cope with such a grand occasion.

Since the 2011 wedding, Eliza has rarely appeared in public, making the new photographs from Scotland a rare glimpse of how much the once widely photographed little bridesmaid has grown up.
