In the coming days, with air temperatures in Latvia rising above +30°C, road asphalt surfaces will become extremely hot. According to Latvijas Valsts ceļi (LVC), asphalt bleeding (izsvīdumi) can occur on sections where the asphalt is old and in poor technical condition, as well as in areas where potholes have been repaired.

Asphalt bleeding happens when heat causes the bitumen binder to rise to the surface, making the road slick and sticky. This can make driving hazardous, especially for motorcyclists and cyclists, and may increase braking distances. LVC urges drivers to be cautious, reduce speed, and pay attention to road conditions, particularly on older roads and near asphalt repairs.
