Heatwave to retreat, rain and cooler weather expected later this week

After a hot start to the week with temperatures up to +32°C, Tuesday and Wednesday will remain warm, but from Thursday onwards rain and cooler air will arrive, with daytime highs not exceeding +24°C, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

Monday will still be hot across Latvia – daytime temperatures will reach +27…+32°C, slightly cooler on the coast (+22…+26°C). Nighttime lows will be +17…+21°C, with a tropical night possible in central areas. Winds will be light, and UV index is high.

On Tuesday, a cloud zone from the west will bring short rain and local thunderstorms with heavy downpours. Night temperatures will stay at +16…+21°C, while daytime highs will be +23…+28°C, cooler on the coast. Fog may form in some areas.

Wednesday will be partly cloudy, with increasing clouds in the afternoon and rain expected in western and central regions. Nighttime temperatures will drop to +13…+16°C, daytime temperatures +24…+29°C, except on the coast and parts of Kurzeme (+18…+23°C).

In the second half of the week, cyclone influence will strengthen – skies will be cloudier, precipitation will be more widespread, and local thunderstorms possible. It will become notably cooler: over the weekend, daytime temperatures in most of the country will not exceed +20°C.
