Heatwave in France causes around 1,000 additional deaths
France's public health agency reported about 1,000 excess deaths since June 24 due to the heatwave, with the elderly most affected.

The heatwave that has engulfed much of Western Europe for several days has led to a significant increase in deaths in France. The French public health agency announced that since June 24, there have been approximately 1,000 more deaths than usual. The figures are preliminary, and the agency warns that the final toll is likely to be higher.
The increase was particularly pronounced in areas under red heat warnings. About 85% of the excess deaths were among people aged 65 and older. The sharpest rise was observed among those who died at home, especially in Paris and its suburbs.
On Sunday, the heatwave began to subside in France, but temperatures had exceeded 40°C in many places for several days. The heatwave affected a large part of Western Europe.
