Heat to persist in Latvia with scattered showers expected

According to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, Thursday, 6 August, will bring variable cloud cover. Short showers are expected in places, mainly in the southern part of the country. Winds will be light overnight, then strengthen during the day and turn to come from the southwest and west. Overnight temperatures will drop to +17…+20°C, while daytime temperatures will reach +26…+31°C. In parts of Kurzeme and along the coast, the maximum will be +21…+24°C.

Friday will mix sunshine with cloud. Rain is expected in eastern regions at night, and isolated thunderstorms are possible in the southeast. During the day, brief rain will also fall elsewhere in Latvia. A light to moderate southwest and west wind is forecast, becoming gusty along the coast at night and in the morning, with gusts up to 15 m/s. Overnight lows will be +15…+19°C, and daytime highs will reach +20…+24°C, with +18…+20°C in western areas.

Over the weekend, skies will often be cloudy, though the sun will appear from time to time. Saturday is expected to bring rain in many places, while Sunday should pass without significant precipitation. A cooler air mass will move into the country from Friday, so temperatures over the weekend will not exceed +18…+23°C.

At the start of the new week, a large cyclone will approach Latvia from the north, bringing more cloud. On Tuesday, rain is expected across a wide area, and winds will become gusty. Daytime temperatures will mostly remain above +20°C. Although Monday will still feel summery, during the first half of the week the mercury will generally stay only a couple of degrees above the +20°C mark.
