Explosion in Qatar's Industrial Zone

At least 13 people have died and 66 others were injured in an explosion at the Ras Laffan industrial zone near Qatar's capital Doha, according to Reuters, citing the country's energy ministry.

The incident occurred on the evening of June 21. Preliminary reports indicate that the explosion was caused by an accident during the startup of operations at the facility.

Ras Laffan is Qatar's main industrial center for processing liquefied natural gas (LNG). Reuters specifies that the explosion took place at the Barzan gas processing plant. Sky News notes that the blast was so powerful that it was felt by residents of Doha, located several tens of kilometers from the epicenter.
