The Fencing World Championships are being held in Hong Kong for the first time this year, attracting over 1,000 competitors from more than 100 countries. The event runs from July 22 to 30.

World number one women's épée fencer Katrina Lehas has automatically qualified for the first round, the round of 64, while her teammates Irina Embrich, Julia Beljajeva, and Veronika Zuikova must go through qualifying on Wednesday, July 22. Women's team head coach Nikolai Novosjolov said preparations had gone according to plan, conditions are excellent, and the team's greatest strength is the athletes themselves, who are ready to show their level.

All four men's team members – Sten Priinits, Kasper Tafenau, Oliver Laasik, and Markus Salm – must go through qualifying. Priinits stated that the team has prepared well, morale is high, and they have had quality training sessions and sparring with athletes from different countries. He believes the entire team is ready to give 100 percent.

Women's individual events take place from July 22 to 25, while men's individual events start and end one day later. Women's team competition is scheduled for July 28, and men's team competition for July 29.
