Kauguri parish chimney-sweeping firm ordered to pay over €200,000 in tax debt
Estonia's Economic Affairs Court is recovering more than €203,000 in unpaid taxes from a company registered in Latvia's Valmiera municipality, after its owner had already set up replacement businesses.

A company called "Drošs skurstenis" ("Safe Chimney"), registered in the Kauguri parish of Valmiera municipality, left behind an unpaid tax debt to the state budget exceeding €203,000. The case to recover the debt is now before the Economic Affairs Court.
Owner switches companies
As the financial trouble mounted, the company's owner did not wait for the situation to resolve itself — he simply registered a new company. But the story did not end there.
Some time later, the firm's website began displaying the name of a different company, this one registered in Estonia. This suggests that the original debtor's business activity may be continuing under a new legal entity registered in the neighboring country.
The case illustrates how business owners who accumulate large debts to the state budget sometimes switch between companies to avoid settling what they owe, while continuing operations under a new name or in a different jurisdiction.
