Wedding in the storm: Anna and Ģirts marry as Latvia hit by devastating storm

Anna and Ģirts held their wedding on the day Latvia was struck by its most destructive storm since 2005, facing broken umbrellas, fallen trees and soaked clothes.

A couple of weeks before their wedding, Anna and Ģirts had already been watching the forecast, which looked unpromising even then, though they still hoped for dry weather on the big day.

Two days before the ceremony, the outlook worsened further: forecasters warned of an approaching powerful storm, and residents were advised to stay indoors and avoid going outside during it.

The wedding day arrives with full force

When the long-awaited day finally came, conditions turned out even harsher than the couple had feared. The storm brought strong winds and rain — umbrellas snapped almost instantly, trees came crashing down, and the clothing of guests and the newlyweds alike ended up completely soaked.

This was the same storm now being described as the most destructive to hit Latvia since 2005. Despite the extreme conditions, the ceremony went ahead as planned, and the couple spent their wedding day under the influence of a natural disaster that left its mark on the entire celebration.
