Ķegums to host Michaelmas fair with bread and meat festival
Ķegums will hold a Michaelmas fair featuring a bread and meat festival with a tasting contest, alongside seasonal produce and craft stalls. A folklore group will also lead games for children.
The town of Ķegums is preparing to host a Michaelmas fair combined with a bread and meat festival. Starting at 9:00, the market will offer seasonal produce for immediate use or winter storage, along with goods from Latvian home producers, craftspeople and small manufacturers.
Bread and meat competition
From 11:00, visitors are invited to the bread and meat festival portion of the event, where they can taste and vote for their favorite bread and meat entries submitted by contest participants, all of whom baked, smoked or otherwise prepared the items themselves. At 12:00, the makers of the best-rated bread and meat will be awarded.
The contest is open to any resident of Latvia involved in bread baking and/or livestock farming. Each participant may enter one loaf of bread or one piece of meat. Applications must be submitted in free form, briefly describing the applicant, the bread recipe or the meat's origin, baking or preparation experience, and the name given to the entered product. Applications must be sent by email by October 1, 2026.
Activities for children
Younger visitors will be able to enjoy Michaelmas games and entertainment organized together with a folklore group.
