Heavily intoxicated driver from village called Dzērumi caught in Ķekava
Municipal police in Ķekava detained a driver with 1.87 per mille of alcohol in his blood who had already previously lost his driving licence for a similar offence; ironically, he lives in and had set off from a village literally named "Dzērumi" (Hangovers).
On September 14, municipal police in the Ķekava municipality received a report from a resident about a Volvo driver who was moving erratically on the road and endangering other traffic participants with dangerous manoeuvres. The person reporting suspected the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
A patrol unit spotted and stopped the vehicle shortly after receiving the report. A breath test confirmed the suspicion — the driver was found to have 1.87 per mille of alcohol in his system.
Licence already revoked once before
A check of documents and personal data revealed that the man had previously had his driving licence revoked for a similar offence — driving under the influence of alcohol. That had not stopped him from getting behind the wheel again.
A striking coincidence
Police also noted an unusual coincidence: the offender lives in a village literally named "Dzērumi" (which translates roughly as "Drinking" or "Hangovers"), and he had begun this dangerous trip from that very village.
Ķekava municipal police publicly thanked the resident who reported the dangerous driver in time, stressing that such civic vigilance helps prevent possible tragedies and serious consequences on the road.
