On Monday, September 14, the Ķekava municipal police received a report about the driver of a Volvo who was driving unsteadily and unreliably, creating a danger for other people on the road at the time.

After receiving the report, municipal police officers went to the location and stopped the vehicle. During the initial check, officers suspected the driver was under the influence of alcohol. A further test confirmed those suspicions — the driver's blood alcohol level was found to be close to two per mille, indicating a severe degree of intoxication.

The incident is another reminder of the importance of reacting promptly to suspicious or dangerous driving behavior on the road and reporting it to the relevant authorities. Ķekava municipal police say they continue working to identify and prevent situations in which drivers pose a risk to themselves and to other road users.

It has not been specified what further action will be taken against the driver, though such cases in Latvia are typically referred to the relevant authorities for review in line with existing regulations on driving under the influence of alcohol.
