The Riga City Council's External Communication Department has announced that swimming is prohibited in the Daugava River opposite Latgales Street 320 in the Ķengarags neighbourhood. The decision is based on water sample analyses carried out by the scientific institute "BIOR".

The municipality's Housing and Environment Department organises water quality monitoring at 20 popular but officially unapproved swimming sites in Riga. Among them, microbiological indicators are good at 17 locations, while three have shown deterioration.

Given the test results, swimming is not recommended in Buļļupe near Birzes Street and in the Daugava opposite Latgales Street 324 D. In the section opposite Latgales Street 320, swimming is completely banned.

At the same time, water quality at nine official swimming sites in the capital — Vakarbuļļi, Daugavgrīva, Vecāķi, Bābelīte, Lucavsala, Lucavsala Bay, Rumbula, Ķīpsala and the Bolderāja quarry — meets hygiene requirements, and swimming is allowed there. The municipality urges residents to heed the warnings and choose safe, verified swimming spots.
