He Was Saving for a Bride Price of 99 Goats, Russia Sent Him to Die in Ukraine

A captured Kenyan told a Ukrainian journalist he signed what he believed was a security guard contract, only to realize he was in the Russian army when handed a uniform.

A captured Kenyan national revealed to a Ukrainian journalist that he had signed a contract under the impression it was for a security guard position. He only learned he was in the Russian army when they gave him a uniform.

According to the journalist’s report, the man had been saving money for a bride price consisting of 99 goats. He hoped to earn the needed sum through the security job, but instead was sent to fight in Ukraine on Russia’s side.

Further details about the circumstances of his capture and current status are not disclosed. This incident once again shows how Russia recruits foreign citizens for its army, often misleading them about the nature of the work.
