During the funeral ceremony of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on Sunday, a eulogist urged the crowd to kill US President Donald Trump. Mohammad Rasouli, speaking before prayers over Khamenei's body, asked why they should not kill the one who killed their Imam and Leader. "It is a disgrace for us if we do not kill your killer," he said. Posters and slogans supporting the killing of Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were visible at the event. Rasouli also led chants of "death to America" and "death to Israel," stating that "Trump's killing is our duty." The crowd applauded his remarks. The funeral comes amid ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran to end the Iran war. In January, Trump said he had given "very firm instructions" to "wipe them off the face of this Earth" if Iran attempted to assassinate him. The Sunday funeral drew a significantly larger crowd than the previous day. A red flag bearing the phrase "Ya Litharat al-Hussein" (O Avengers of Hussein) was raised above the dome of Tehran's Mosalla, symbolizing vengeance for the killing of Hussein ibn Ali, the third Imam of Shia Islam. Many attendees also carried red flags as symbols of retribution.

Speaking from Mount Rushmore on the eve of America's 250th anniversary, Trump claimed the US had "knocked the hell out of Iran" and that Tehran was "dying to settle." He added, "We gave him a week off for a funeral because we're nice." In an interview with Axios, Trump said he was monitoring Khamenei's funeral, noting that "They are all there. One shot [and we can take them all out], but we are not going to do that because then we would have nobody to negotiate with."
