Russian relay devices may be operating in Kyiv to guide drones, expert says

Ukrainian radio-electronics expert Serhii Beskrestnov says up to three Russian MESH network relay devices may be operating in Kyiv, complicating the city's defense against Shahed-type kamikaze drones.

Ukrainian radio communications and electronic warfare expert Serhii Beskrestnov, widely known by the nickname "Flash," has stated that up to three Russian-origin MESH network relay devices may be operating within Kyiv.

What a MESH network does

MESH technology allows the creation of a decentralized communication network in which individual devices relay signals to one another, extending coverage and making the network harder to trace or jam. According to Beskrestnov, Russia may be using such devices to maintain a more stable communication and control link with Shahed-type kamikaze drones, which Russia regularly deploys in strikes on Ukrainian territory.

Impact on air defense

The expert noted that the possible presence of such relay devices within the capital significantly complicates Kyiv's defense against drone attacks. If Russian forces manage to sustain a stable control channel with drones directly over or near the target city, this could improve strike accuracy and hinder the ability of Ukrainian electronic warfare systems to disrupt drone guidance.

Beskrestnov is recognized as one of Ukraine's leading specialists in radio communications and counter-drone measures, and his observations are frequently used to analyze the technologies and tactics Russia employs against Ukrainian cities.

No official confirmation of the exact location of these relay devices or any steps to neutralize them has been provided so far.
