Ukrainian radio communications and drone expert Serhii Beskrestnov, known by the nickname "Flash," has stated that up to three Russian-origin MESH-type relay devices are likely operating within Kyiv. According to the expert, these devices are being used to maintain communication links with "Shahed" kamikaze-type drones, which Russia regularly deploys in strikes against Ukrainian territory.

MESH technology allows the creation of a decentralized communication network, where a signal is passed from one node to the next, making a drone control system more resistant to jamming. Beskrestnov said the presence of such relay devices inside Kyiv itself significantly hampers the ability of the city's air defense and electronic warfare units to cut communications with incoming drones and neutralize them.

An added challenge for Kyiv's defense

The expert emphasized that this situation creates an additional challenge for defending Kyiv against mass drone attacks, which have recently become one of the key elements of Russia's military tactics against Ukrainian civilian infrastructure and cities.

Beskrestnov is known in Ukraine as one of the leading specialists in electronic warfare and radio communications, regularly offering public commentary on the technologies Russia uses in drone strikes and on possible countermeasures.

No official confirmation has yet been provided by Ukraine's military or security agencies regarding the exact number or locations of such relay devices.
