Ukrainian military officials have denied Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's claims about the capture of Kostiantynivka in Donetsk Oblast. On Saturday, July 4, 2026, the Ukrainian General Staff officially stated that Putin's assertions were untrue.
General Staff press secretary Andriy Kovalenko stressed that Kostiantynivka is still under the control of the Ukrainian armed forces. He explained that units from the "East" troop grouping continue defensive operations within the city and its approaches.
Kovalenko acknowledged isolated incidents where small Russian infantry groups infiltrated the city. Counter-sabotage operations are currently underway in Kostiantynivka.
As previously reported, Putin on Friday claimed that Russian forces had taken Kostiantynivka. The Ukrainian side immediately denied this information, stating that the situation in the city is stable and remains under Ukrainian control.
