Kyiv doctor shot over 20 times by attacker dies of injuries
Reproductive medicine specialist Ihor Ilyin, shot more than 20 times in Kyiv on September 3 by a man whose wife had died after treatment at his clinic, died of his injuries on September 13. The attacker had already been detained before the doctor's death.

Ihor Ilyin, a reproductive medicine doctor, has died in hospital in Kyiv from injuries sustained in a shooting attack earlier this month. His colleague Tamara Yuzko announced his death on Facebook, and the news was confirmed by law enforcement sources cited by Ukrainska Pravda. According to available information, the 71-year-old doctor died on September 13.
Ilyin was the director of a private medical facility, the Institute of Genetics and Reproduction in Kyiv, and was known as an obstetrician-gynecologist and fertility specialist. His colleague described him as someone who had done a great deal of good for patients throughout his career.
Circumstances of the attack
The attack took place around 10 a.m. on September 3 in Kyiv's Sviatoshynskyi district, where a man fired more than 20 shots at Ilyin. According to investigators, the attacker's wife had died following treatment at the clinic, which is believed to be connected to the motive for the shooting.
Law enforcement officials also stated that the attacker had previously left his military unit without authorization. Kyiv police detained the suspect on September 8, five days after the attack. The doctor succumbed to his injuries five days later despite receiving hospital treatment.
