An energy facility in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv, Ukraine's capital, was hit on 20 October, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The strike briefly affected the city's metro, but train traffic was restored quickly. The headline of the original report attributes the attack to Russia.

What the mayor said

Klitschko wrote on Telegram that the facility in the Shevchenkivskyi district had been hit and that emergency services were heading to the scene. The report does not say what type of facility it was or how much damage was done.

Metro disruption

Users of local social media platforms reported that the metro and the funicular had stopped running. The Kyiv Metro press service told the outlet Ukrainska Pravda that trains had indeed stopped, but only for a few minutes.

Oksana Nykyforuk, spokesperson for the Kyiv Metro, explained that services were suspended temporarily because of a power cut. The metro is running again and services have been restored. The disruption lasted about five minutes, while the system switched to a backup power supply.

The source does not mention any casualties or whether other parts of the city lost power.
