Kristaps Zīle is considered one of the pioneers of kickboxing in Latvia, having gone abroad at a time when Latvian fighters rarely had such opportunities.

In an interview with Apollo.lv, the athlete revealed that his path in combat sports has not been easy. Alongside training and competing, he had to work in construction to make ends meet while also raising his son. Despite these challenges, Zīle continued to represent Latvia on the international stage.

A difficult but determined journey

In the interview, the athlete described his experience as very harsh, emphasizing that success in kickboxing required not only physical but also mental resilience. His story illustrates the determination needed to keep competing even as daily responsibilities and financial pressures added extra strain.

Kristaps Zīle's experience reflects what many Latvian combat sports athletes faced during a period when the sport was still developing in the country and professional support for athletes was limited.
