Chinese Electric Car Loses Motor While Driving
In Shenyang, China, bystanders filmed a BYD Tang electric car dragging its motor behind it by a high-voltage cable. The motor likely detached after hitting a submerged obstacle due to high water.
An unusual incident occurred in the Chinese city of Shenyang, where an electric vehicle lost its motor while driving. A video uploaded to YouTube shows a BYD Tang model continuing to move while towing its electric motor, connected by an orange high-voltage cable.
Although such an event is extremely rare—since electric car motors are typically firmly integrated into the drivetrain and their detachment during motion is virtually impossible—this time it happened. Media speculate that the motor may have fallen out after a strong collision with an obstacle, such as a curb or another object hidden under water. This explanation is supported by the conditions visible in the video, where the water level was so high that curbs and other obstacles became completely invisible.
The BYD Tang model is produced in several versions: as a fully electric vehicle with one or two electric motors, as well as a plug-in hybrid.
